Cover-ups are one of the main things we do. A good cover-up is not just a darker tattoo on top of the old one: the new design is drawn around the old lines, using texture, shadow and direction so the old tattoo disappears into it.
How a cover-up is planned
It starts with a clear photo of the old tattoo in daylight. Your artist looks at how dark and how big it is, where it sits and how your skin has held it, then suggests subjects that work well for covering: animals with fur or feathers, flowers, mythological figures, statues and other designs with deep shadows and rich texture.
Reworks
Not every old tattoo needs to be hidden. Sometimes it can be reworked: lines cleaned up, shading rebuilt and new elements added around it. A client who travelled to us from the Netherlands had an old inner-arm tattoo reworked this way and a new piece added next to it.
Scar cover-ups
Scars can be covered too, once they have fully healed. Please check with your doctor first; your artist will then look at the texture of the scar and plan a design that works with it.
What we don't do
We do not offer laser tattoo removal. If an old tattoo is very dark, a few laser sessions elsewhere can sometimes make the cover-up easier; your artist will tell you if that would help.
